Annerley Ensuite and Main Bathroom Renovation

Looking for inspiration for a bathroom renovation in Annerley? This recent Hunter Bathrooms Brisbane project involved the renovation of two bathrooms in the same home — an ensuite and a main bathroom — with both spaces redesigned to improve layout, storage, comfort and overall style.

The brief was to modernise both bathrooms while making better use of the available space. Through thoughtful planning, smarter fixture placement and timeless finishes, both rooms were transformed into practical, elegant bathrooms suited to everyday living.

Ensuite Renovation in Annerley

The ensuite renovation focused on improving privacy and creating a more functional layout. Originally, the ensuite had two access points, including a doorway from the kitchen. That extra doorway was closed in, making the ensuite accessible only from the master bedroom and creating a far more logical layout.

Inside the room, the toilet and vanity were repositioned to improve flow and usability. The toilet was moved closer to the window, while the vanity was placed to the left as you enter. The back wall was transformed into a full-length walk-in shower with a long recessed ledge, giving the room a cleaner look and more practical storage.

To enhance the finish, the walls were tiled to 2100mm high, with VJ panelling above to add texture and character. In this smaller room, white 300×600 wall tiles were chosen to help reflect light and make the ensuite feel brighter and more spacious.

The result is a private, light-filled ensuite that feels significantly more open and better connected to the master bedroom.

Main Bathroom Renovation in Annerley

The main bathroom renovation was all about opening up the room and improving how the space worked for the household. One of the biggest changes was the removal of the nib wall that had previously hidden the toilet. With this wall gone, the toilet could be relocated to the back corner, where it still maintains privacy thanks to the surrounding layout and cupboard placement.

The old built-in bath was removed and replaced with a back-to-wall bathtub under the window, instantly improving the look of the room and making much better use of the available space. The shower remained in the same location but was upgraded with a semi-frameless shower screen for a more modern finish.

A larger vanity with a single basin was installed, paired with above-vanity lighting for better functionality and a more polished look. Existing cupboard doors were also upgraded. The original outward-opening VJ doors were replaced with sliding doors, including one mirrored panel, creating a better use of space and improving storage access.

Materials and Finishes

One of the strengths of this Annerley bathroom renovation project is the way both bathrooms feel connected through a consistent selection of finishes. Across the ensuite and main bathroom, the project features:

  • Brushed nickel tapware and fixtures
  • Avoca Bianco 600×600 tiles with a travertine-look grain
  • Otti Hampton-style vanities
  • Matte white fluted edge basin sinks
  • White stone vanity tops
  • Bar lights above each vanity

These finishes create a look that is warm, timeless and practical. The travertine-look tile adds natural texture, while brushed nickel fixtures bring a softer and more refined finish than standard chrome. The Hampton-style vanities help tie both spaces together while keeping the look classic and clean.

Why This Bathroom Renovation Worked

This project is a great example of how a successful bathroom renovation in Annerley is about more than choosing new tiles and tapware. The biggest improvements came from making smarter layout decisions.

In the ensuite, closing off the second doorway created privacy and improved the relationship between the bedroom and bathroom. In the main bathroom, removing the nib wall and relocating the bath and toilet made the room feel larger, more practical and better balanced.

These kinds of design choices have a major impact on how a bathroom feels and functions every day.
