Traditional Meets Modern: A Camp Hill Queenslander Ensuite Transformation
In Brisbane’s charming suburb of Camp Hill, we recently completed a stunning ensuite renovation that perfectly balances traditional Queenslander charm with contemporary luxury. The project showcases how modern amenities can be thoughtfully integrated into a heritage-style home while maintaining its classic character.
The Challenge
The original ensuite, typical of its era, featured basic brown floor tiles and a dated pebblecrete shower base. More concerning was the compromised waterproofing, which prompted the homeowners to seek a complete renovation. Their vision was clear: create a space that honored the home’s Queenslander heritage while incorporating modern conveniences and luxury touches.
Design Elements
The new design achieves a masterful blend of traditional and contemporary elements. Floor-to-ceiling white gloss subway tiles (100x200mm) installed in a classic brick bond pattern provide a timeless backdrop that brightens the space. To ground the design and create visual interest, we selected Oslo Navy mosaic tiles (200x200mm) for the floor, offering a sophisticated contrast to the crisp white walls.
A wall-hung vanity in traditional shaker style from Timberline serves as a focal point, its antique brass knobs adding a heritage touch. The choice of an oval Myrtle Gloss above-counter basin paired with a white benchtop introduces elegant curves to the design. These curved elements are echoed in the selection of an arch-shaped mirror, which softens the bathroom’s linear elements and adds architectural interest.
Luxury Fixtures
The polished copper tapware elevates the entire space, providing a warmer, more luxurious alternative to traditional chrome fixtures. This metallic finish adds a layer of sophistication while complementing the bathroom’s heritage elements.
Modern functionality wasn’t overlooked – the installation of a rimless tornado flush toilet offers contemporary convenience with its quiet operation and easy-clean design, proving that traditional style and modern technology can coexist beautifully.
The Result
The completed ensuite renovation stands as a testament to thoughtful design that respects architectural heritage while embracing modern comfort. Every element, from the classic subway tiles to the sophisticated copper fixtures, works in harmony to create a space that feels both timeless and contemporary.
This Camp Hill project exemplifies Hunter Bathrooms Brisbane’s commitment to delivering renovations that honour a home’s character while meeting the practical needs of modern living. The result is a bathroom that will serve its owners beautifully for years to come, bridging the gap between traditional Queenslander charm and contemporary luxury.
