Yeerongpilly Bathroom Renovation

Nestled in the charming suburb of Yeerongpilly, a classic Queenslander home has undergone a stunning bathroom renovation courtesy of Hunter Bathrooms Brisbane. The original bathroom, a decade old, was ready for a makeover that would honour the period charm of the house while breathing new life into the space. The clients were clear from the outset: they wanted a classical look, steering clear of modern trends, to seamlessly blend with the heritage of their beloved home.

Before

Stripping Back to Start Fresh

The project kicked off with a critical first step—removing asbestos, a common feature in older Queenslanders. This process took the bathroom back to its bare walls, providing a blank canvas for the transformation. What was once a flat, low ceiling was reimagined into a raked design, lifting the space visually and improving ventilation—a thoughtful nod to both aesthetics and practicality in Brisbane’s humid climate.

Reimagining the Layout

The original layout featured two large windows, but to optimise the design, one was removed. In its place, a higher, smaller awning window was installed, freeing up space for the toilet’s new position. Speaking of which, the entire layout was flipped—shower, vanity, and toilet were all relocated, requiring a complete overhaul of the plumbing. This bold move ensured the bathroom felt fresh yet functional, tailored to the family’s needs.

Classic Finishes with a Modern Edge

For the walls and floors, the clients chose 600×600 Marvel Shine Calacatta Delicato tiles—a luxurious, glossy finish that exudes timeless elegance. These tiles grace the shower and run halfway up the walls, where they meet a crisp edging detail. Above this, vertical joint (VJ) sheets add texture and depth, painted in Taubmans Night Blue for a rich, classic contrast. The upper VJ panelling not only ties into the Queenslander aesthetic but also adds a tactile element the clients adore.

Heritage-Inspired Fixtures

The tapware, sourced from Nero’s York collection in aged brass, brings an old-fashioned charm that perfectly complements the home’s character. The shower features a rail design in the same York aged brass finish, while the frameless shower screen stands out with special-order brass hinges—a subtle but striking detail. A practical niche was also carved into the shower wall, offering a sleek storage solution for shower products.

A Standout Vanity

In the corner sits an ADP vanity with a curved edge and grooved drawer, topped with a bright white ceramic counter. The Flume above-counter basin adds a sculptural touch, paired with in-wall basin tapware in aged brass for a cohesive look. Above it, a curved-edge mirror softens the room’s lines, enhancing the classical vibe the clients sought.

Thoughtful Details

The toilet now resides in the back corner, tucked beneath a custom-made awning window crafted by local woodworkers and painted a crisp white. Plenty of towel rails and hooks were dotted around the space, ensuring practicality for the whole family. Every element was carefully considered to balance form and function.

A Space Reborn

What started as a dated, 10-year-old bathroom is now a harmonious blend of heritage style and modern craftsmanship. Hunter Bathrooms Brisbane has delivered a space that not only respects the Queenslander’s architectural roots but also elevates it for contemporary living. From the raked ceiling to the aged brass accents and Night Blue VJ walls, this renovation is a testament to timeless design done right.
