Moorooka Workers Cottage Bathroom Transformation

Hunter Bathrooms Brisbane Delivers Modern Elegance in Heritage Setting

When the owners of a charming Moorooka workers cottage decided it was time to modernise their bathroom, they turned to Hunter Bathrooms Brisbane for a complete renovation that would respect the character of their heritage home while delivering contemporary functionality and style.

Before

Conquering Challenges

The project began with careful asbestos removal, ensuring safety while preparing the space for transformation. The existing bathroom layout presented several constraints that needed creative solutions. A casement window was preserved as a nod to the cottage’s heritage, with grills removed and architraves taken out to create a cleaner look. The window was cleverly incorporated into the new design by tiling it in, seamlessly blending old and new.

To maximise space in the modest cottage bathroom, an existing cupboard was removed, instantly creating a more spacious feel. Perhaps most significantly, all plumbing was reconfigured to accommodate a toilet—giving the cottage a second toilet and dramatically increasing functionality for the household.

Innovative Design Solutions

The bathroom now features a sophisticated built-in cistern toilet incorporated into a new shelf wall beneath the mirror. This shelf wall connects to a half nib wall that cleverly defines the shower space without closing it off. The walk-in shower sits atop this nib wall and features sleek glass panels without a door, enhancing the room’s open feel while creating a contemporary wet area.

The vanity unit showcases a stunning wood grain finish with all-drawer storage. Mounted off the floor to enhance the sense of space, it’s topped with an elegant round above-counter basin complemented by wall-mounted tap and spout with brushed nickel finishes.

Stunning Tile Selection

Making a dramatic statement is the 200x200mm Madrid Hampton blue feature tile that immediately draws the eye upon entering the bathroom. This distinctive element is beautifully balanced by 600x600mm Silver Cloud tiles on both floors and walls, sourced from Concept Tiles Rocklea. Every tiled edge is finished with stainless metal trim for a polished, professional appearance.

Attention to Detail

The brushed nickel fixtures—including towel rails, shower head and tapware—create a cohesive design language throughout the space. A generously proportioned three-door mirror cabinet features understated undermount lighting that provides soft, ambient illumination, perfect for creating a relaxing atmosphere.

Practical considerations weren’t overlooked, with a new fan incorporating both light and heater functions installed for year-round comfort. The transformation is completed with a new entry door and handle that complement the overall design aesthetic.

This Moorooka bathroom renovation demonstrates Hunter Bathrooms Brisbane’s expertise in transforming heritage spaces with thoughtful design solutions that honour the past while embracing modern functionality—proving that even in a workers cottage, contemporary bathroom luxury is entirely achievable.
